Hello Glamazons!

Today I will be reviewing the Essence eye shadow in the shade ‘Black Goddess’. I have to say I love the name of this product.

I got this in my MSM Style Box. It comes in a 2.5 gm packaging and retails for Rs.199/- only.

What I love about this eye shadow straight off the bat is the packaging! Its a pressed black, shimmery, sparkly powder and has an abstract, floral print on it.

I had a tough time dipping my brush into it lest I spoil the design. The shade has a universal appeal and will flatter any skin tone.

It has a smooth, powdery finish when I swatched it. Spree.co.za describes this shadow as “This highly pigmented, shimmering hue ensures a chic start to your ensemble.” I look forward to creating smouldering eyes with this shade.

The shadow carries carries well through the day as well as the night. Being black it will go with just any wardrobe.

Essence is essentially a drugstore brand and is quite affordable nonetheless, it has good pigmentation, especially over an eye shadow primer. One criticism though, I was checking the ingredients list and I found that this product contains Parabens.

In one of my earlier blog I had written about the harmful effects of Parabens. But its so widely used that I keep wondering why.

What does it do for the cosmetic? I decided to find out and came to know that it is a very effective preservative.
Use of a preservatives, especially Parabens in a cosmetic ensures that it does not spoil. Preservatives prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and mould thus protecting not only the product but also the user.
I tried this eye shadow and I have to say that it applies and blends beautifully. Perfect for those gradient looks.
It’s quite long lasting and has a beautiful silky texture. It’s not very expensive and is easy to remove or clean.

The packaging is pretty minimalistic and closes with a very satisfactory snap. This shade is a very good for beginners or people who are new to makeup.
Working with black can be quite a challenge but this shade allows for a little building up so its easy to correct mistakes. Another thing that I loved about this shadow is that there’s no fall out.
This is always a plus point for black eye shadows. Imagine the clean up!
Needless to say that the shadow works best with a primer as the color truly stands out and shines in all its glory. But even sans a primer it holds well.

This is a good eye shadow to have as part of your makeup bag and I would buy it again. And that’s my review.

Dream Big Dare Greatly | Lip Love | January,2017

Lip Love, January,2017 | Image courtesy hello subscription.com

Hello Glamazons!

Today we will be reviewing the So Susan Lip Love Beauty Subscription bag for January,2017. Lip Love is a beauty subscription service which ships worldwide.

The Lip Love bag  comes at a subscription fee of $20.95 (USD) per month. That works out to roughly Rs. 1,421/- only per month.

This price includes the cost of shipping. For the price of $21/- (almost) only you get 4-5 whimsically packaged products in a very pretty and whimsical canvas makeup bag.

Lip Love is a beauty subscription bag managed by So Susan Cosmetics so they decides on your products for the month. No need to fill a preference questionnaire.

Typically the products you receive are : eye shadows, mascaras, lip gloss or a lipstick etc. This month Lip Love celebrated dreamers.

Here I am reminded of a quote by T.E Lawrence. It goes “All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.”

The theme of this months Lip Love bag is very related. It says Dream Big Dare Greatly which basically means that t dont limit your dreams or your imaginations.

And once you have dream it, chase the dream and make it a reality. Dare to dream care to achieve!

Even if people laugh at your dream let the, don’t deter from your path. Once the dream is achieved, you just might be the person having the last laugh!

Back to the bag now. This month Lip Love changed up their bags.

They usually do canvas bags with whimsical prints however this time, it was a plasticy, rexine material and also gone was the whimisical prints and quotes. This time they seemed to be targeting a more mature audience.

The bag itself is a lovely orange with prints f a tiger, cheetah and a zebra in white. Across all of this are oriented the words Dream Big Dare Greatly.

Have a look at the bag below.

Now lets have a loom at  products I received:

  1. Lip Pout | In the shade ‘Parrots” | Sp Susan | $18.95 | This is a pretty pink lipstick with a buttery consistency. This is So Susan’s own product and like the Lip Butters by Jelly Pong Pong, this range of lipstick also come in cases made of paper.

They also have a colorful, whimsical print and names that dont give out the shade. With a name like parrots the use is left guessing what the color could possibly be.

Green?! Have a look at the lipstick below:

2. Liptensity | In the shade ‘Intensity’| Jelly Pong Pong | $19.95 | This is a bold lip gloss that packs a good amount of shine and a lot of pigment! This formula is very creamy and moisturizing.

The shade is a gorgeous bright pink. and has a floral fragrance. Below is a pic of the lip gloss.

3. Liquid Glow | Trifle Cosmetics | $19.95 | This product is actually of no use to me nonetheless, according to Trifle cosmetics just a touch of this of this liquid luminizer is enough to give your complexion a boom of rosy brilliance.

It contains cocoa extract to hydrate the skin and make it softer. You are supposed to use your ring finger dot onto you cheekbones, brow bones and cupids bow for a boost of ethereal glow.

Have a look at the cute, whimsical packaging below.

4.Dream Pallette | In the shade ‘Midnight Ride’ | Jelly Pong Pong | $19.95 | This product is an antioxidant-rich eye shadow palette with a luxurious airy texture.

It not only moisturizes and melts onto the skin, but also makes your shadows last longer. This little eyeshadow palette is stunning!

Have a look at the pic below:

I love eyeshadow so easily this is the most favorite product out of the bag. However, I received mine broken and there’s powder all over!

I would have exchanged it but I think its expensive to send back so I’ll keep it. However, it will be nice to know how responsive Lip Love is so maybe I will write and report this.

The total value of this bag totals to $90.80/- only. I love the tag line of So Susan as a brand its:

In each of us, there is a young, suffering child. We have all had times of difficulty as children.

To protect and defend ourselves against future suffering, we often try to forget those painful times. Every time we’re in touch with the experience of suffering, we believe we can’t bear it.

We stuff our feelings and memories deep down in our unconscious mind. It may be that we haven’t dared to face this child for many decades.

Below is a list of the products I received :

  1. Neapolitan Palette |Eye Shadow Palette |Jelly Pong Pong | 3 gms
  2. Tarte | Lip Surgence Lip Creme | In the shade ‘Wonder’
  3. Ciate London | Paintpot | 13.5 ml| In the shade ‘Spinning Tea Cups’

Total calculated value: Unavailable since prices are not mentioned. Like the Lip Monthly, Ipsy sends a different designed bag every month.

The August,2016 theme was ‘Sugar Highness’ , the bag itself has a pretty girl who seems to be getting her make up done. She has lavender hair and mascara and lip gloss is being applied to her.

Her head band is made of an assortment of make up items. This month, there were two versions of this bag.

I got the lavendar one but there also a sea foam green version. The bag has a pretty baby pink lining.

My favorite product in this bag is the Symphony Beauty | Make up cleansing wipes | Moisturize | Cucumber and Aloe Vera

Lets dive into each of the products now:

Neapolitan Palette |Eye Shadow Palette |Jelly Pong Pong | 3 gms

If you’ve been reading my blog regularly you’d know that I love eye shadow. This is a eye shadow trio and again very safe colors.

img_0385

I prefer pops of colors. It seems to be shimmery and I will be trying it out very soon.

img_0386
Neopolitan pallete | Trio

Its really tiny and compact and with these three colors a lot of looks can be achieved so that good.

Tarte | Lip Surgence Lip Creme | In the shade ‘Wonder’

img_0387

I don’t own anything by  Tarte so that great that I get to sample this brand. Though I have to say that the product size is very small.

img_0388

If I use this regularly I might be able to use it for about three months. Its a lovely tomato red and very creamy lip crayon.

img_0389
Swatch | Lip Surgence in ‘Wonder’

Ciate London | Paintpot | 13.5 ml| In the shade ‘Spinning Tea Cups’

img_0390

I have been seeing this nail polish for forever and I am very glad I received it.I have to say a subscription bag is a great way to sample different brands in very less money.

img_0393
Swatch | 2 coats of Spinning Tea Cups

I love the name of the shade ‘Spinning Tea Cups’ it a lovely lavender. I guess to match the bag that it came in.

Jersey Shore Sun| Mongongo |Nutrient dense anti aging lip conditioner

img_0391

This is a chap stick. I usually use it over a lip liner to bring out the color.

I’ve been using the Maybelline New York Baby Lips which will get over very soon. I’ll replace this with that

The last product in my Ipsy bag is :

Symphony Beauty | Make up cleansing wipes | 10 wipes | Moisturize | Cucumber and Aloe Vera

img_0392

I really liked this product and frankly speaking feel that it deserves its own review! I have been able to remove a full face of make up with it.

Foundation, lipstick, mascara eyeliner everything. Its got a lovely fragrance and the wipes themselves have a textured feel.

I will be purchasing this however in a 30 sheet pack. And that’s my review.

I hope you enjoyed reading this.Thank you for your time and remember to be kind to yourself ‘coz there’s no one like you.

Meet Matt(e) Trimony |Matt Kumar

IMG_0103

Hello My Beauties!

Today we will be learning how to apply eye shadow using the the Meet Matt(e) Trimony matte eye shadow in the shade Matt Kumar. I got this one in my Ipsy Glam Bag for the month of July,2016.

Though this is a free sample and weighs less than a full gram, the full size is available only as part of a full Meet Matt(e) Matrimony eye shadow palette. The entire palette comes up to $42 for 9 eye shadows costing $4.7/- only per eye shadow.

It works out to Rs. 315.60/- only for one eye shadow pan. What I have always loved about products from ‘The Balm’ is their packaging and the clever play on words.

Like this one is Meet Matt(e) Trimony, so they’ve split up ‘matrimony’ into two words. Matte is the first name name of a guy and Trimony is the last name. The shade I have is Matt Kumar, which is a coincidence given my ethnicity.

But some other clever names in this palette are Matt Moskowitz denoting a Russian gentleman, Matt Lopez, Latino and Matt Lin, I think a Chinese or other Asian gentlemen. The tag line on the box is marriage mat(e)rial.

They’ve take poetic licence with the whole word. The shade itself is best described as a matte, brownish maroon.

IMG_0104

It has a smooth, powdery finish when I swatched it on my hands. The website describes it as “……a velvety smooth texture, triple-milled formula and true-to-pan payoff, your look will live on happily ever after. Always easy on the eyes, Meet Matt(e) Trimony transitions from business casual to black tie in no time.”

IMG_0113

The sample itself is really tiny so I don’t know how many uses I can get out of it but we shall see. Using this eye shadow today I am going to take you through a step by step method of how to apply eye shadow.

In my experience, the two most important part of the whole eye shadow application process is not the eye shadow itself but the brushes that one uses and the eye shadow base. I am including a list of all the products and tools I will be using for this look:

IMG_0184
Products and tools used for this blog
  1. Sephora Professionel |Short shader brush| I use this to shade my eyelids
  2. Sigma |Tapered blending brush in E40 | To define the crease
  3. Sigma | Eye shadow base | In the shade ‘Composed’
IMG_0186
Sigma | Eye shadow base and tapered blending brush in E40
  1. The Balm | Eye shadow | In the shade Matt Kumar
  2. Sponge applicator |Part of every eye shadow palette | For applying the base.
  3. Maybelline New York | Eye shadow |Diamond Eye Studio palette | In the shade ‘Wine Pink’
  4. Maybelline New York | Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner | In the shade Black
  5. Maybelline New York | The Colossal Volum Express Waterproof Mascara
IMG_0185
Maybelline New York | Eye shadow palette, liquid eye liner and mascara
  1. Revlon | Colorstay One Stroke Defining Eye Liner| In the shade ‘Blackest Black’

So lets begin. First things first, I will prime my eyes using the eye shadow base. I’ll take a little on my sponge applicator and apply it evenly on both eyes.

I take it up right till my eyebrows . A base provides a foundation for all the colour that you will put on top of it.

It evens out all the little pores on your skin by filling them up so that the color can go on top of it in an even manner. The shade I use is very close to my skin tone and blends in so beautifully that it doesn’t show up at all.

A base also ensures that the eye shadow sticks to it the whole day and does not crease. I find that the base itself needs to set lest you get it on your brush and then it makes the eye shadow sticky.

I usually apply the base and then do a random chore for at least 5 minutes before returning to the eye shadow application. Once dry, I will be applying the Matt Kumar shade on my eyelids with the short shader brush.

This done I will define the crease with a shimmery shade which is the first on in the Maybeline Wine Pink Palete. Its a creamy, peachish eyeshadow shade which shows up peachish in the pan but goes on as a shimmery, sheer white on the eyes.

I will take this on the tapered blending brush and using a car wiper motion will apply this on to my crease. This eye shadow shade gives me a bit of fall out so I will go back in with Matt Kumar on my short shader brush.

This done I will then use the Revlon Colorstay One Stroke Defining Eye Liner to line my water line as well as my lower lash line. On my upper lash line I will use a liquid eye liner.

Today I will be using the Maybelline New York, Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner and I will complete the look with the the Colossal Volum Express Waterproof Mascara And that’s that.

I have used only 2 shades for this look but if you want you could use 3 or more shades for this look. So thats the step by step method using this eye shadow.

I hope you enjoyed reading this.Be sure to like, share and comment on my blog.

And remember, be kind to yourself ‘coz there’s no one like you.

Love!

Below is a list of the products I received :

  1. Meet Matt(e) Trimony | The Balm Cosmetics| Eye shadow single in the shade ‘Matte Kumar’ | 0.5 gms (I got two of these)
  2. Luxie | 215, small angled brush
  3. Trestique | Mini highlight stick in the shade Maldive Luminiscent | 1.1 gm
  4. Palmetto Derma|Rejuvenating anti oxidant mask | 10 ml

Total calculated value: Unavailable since prices are not mentioned. The eye shadow single is a free sample anyway.

Like the Lip Monthly, Ipsy sends a different designed bag every month. Since their July,2016 theme was ‘Hot Summer Nights’, the bag itself looks like an arial view of the beach with sun umbrellas on an iridescent, silver beach.

The bag has a pretty baby pink lining and a tag inside that says Made In China. This is my first time subscription and I am pretty happy with it though I have to say the product sizes are really small.

The only full size product was the brush! Anyway, lets dive into each of the products now:

Meet Matt(e) Trimony | The Balm Cosmetics| Eye shadow single in the shade ‘Matte Kumar’

Even though this was just a sample size I was most excited about this product! I love eye shadow and don’t own anything from The Balm

IMG_0103
Meet Matt(e) Trimony | The Balm Cosmetics

Given a choice I would not buy this pallette as the colors is too stade and boring. I like pops of colors.

IMG_0104
Meet Matt(e) Trimony | Matte Kumar

Plus matte is not my favorite variation of eye shadow. I much prefer a shimmery style.

IMG_0113
Swatch | Matte Kumar

I like the packaging and the play on words though. Even though this is a sample size it still has a magnetic lock mechanism which I appreciate.

Luxie 215 small angled brush :

The next product I received was a make up tool. A small angled brush.

IMG_0108
Luxie | 215, small angled brush

Its got a glossy baby pink handle with a rose gold barrel. The bristles felt very still to me.

This brush can be used with a gel liner to apply eye liner. Due to the angled tip, the application itself will be very precise and fine.

Might be good for winged eye liner. Remains to be seen.

Trestique | Mini highlight stick in the shade Maldive Luminescent

IMG_0107
Trestique | Mini Highlight Stick

I am not into highlighting but if I were then this shade would work out quite well for me. Check out the cute highlighter heart I made

IMG_0109
Swatch |
Trestique highlight stick

For the moment I am going to use this as a brow bone highlighter with eye shadow. I blended it out and its smudges very easily and has a silky, smooth and shimmery finish.

The last product in my July,2016 Ipsy bag is :

Palmetto Derma|Rejuvenating anti oxidant mask

This product is a face mask and claims to be cruelty free. This mask seems to be a cream based mask and might be better suited to dry skin.

IMG_0114
Swatch | Palmetto Derma mask

I opened it up and as you can see it is cream based and has some sort of a face scrub mixed in it. So I guess it will literally moisturize and exfoliate.

The mask has Kaolin in it so it might be suitable for oily skin as well. And that’s my review.

I hope you enjoyed reading this.Thank you for your time and remember to be kind to yourself ‘coz there’s no one like you.
